A finalist, not a winner...so, a winner!

Confusing title? Let me explain.

Remember that contest I entered, the CoH Comic Book Creator contest? Well, I was selected as a finalist, yay! However, I did not win a prize. But the feeling I had when I found out my submission was in the running was a feeling I'll never forget. I can only describe it as pure jubilation. And now I'm hungry for more, so I've been hard at work on a feature-length script, which, if all goes well, I should be shopping come the Fall.

This will never happen again...ever!

I wouldn't normally post a video that I had nothing to do with, but this is a once in a lifetime kind of thing...

That's 2 down...

Finished my second project of the year, the CoH comic book contest. You can view my entry here (http://www.freewebtown.com/pillsbury1984/Finished%20CoH%20Comic.pdf). It's not a super-duper original story, but I have a feeling it'll stand out amongst the other entries.

So what's next for me? I'm working on another short film, a graphic novel script which I'll be submitting to Dark Horse and Image, and eventually two feature film scripts. I've never looked forward to a summer of "work" so much as I am this time around.

Who wants an update? *cricket noises* Aww...

Three days to the deadline, 3 pages left. That's-a-spicy-time-restraint! From what I gather there'll only be between 200-300 entries and there are 3 prizes, sooo...that gives me about a 1% chance to win based on numbers. That ain't bad.

Also, Zach Braff was on the Tonight Show last night and was hilarious as ever, which is to say, very. He's someone I'd like to model myself after, if you haven't read his blog yet, do it! Funny funny blogger...oh, I guess he's a successful writer/director/actor too, but I'd love to blog like he does :P

For the Midnight Shift Cyber-Surfer

For anyone cruising the digital surf, I thought I'd post a little update. I'm working on a comic...well, comic contest. The game "City of Heroes", a game I've played since launch (though which I'm currently taking a break from), is having a comic book contest and I thought I'd give it a shot. Never hurts to try to win a $1000 prize package I always say. It's just an 8-pager, nothing too complex, not like the 'real' comic script I'm also working on (though which I've currently put on the back burner until I finish this contest). The cover and first two pages are done and once I have the rest completed, I'll put up a link here.

Wish me luck!... *cricket noises* ...aww :(

In the middle of the night...

The following was written sometime between 4:30am and 5:30am this morning

Teardrops

There were one, two, three...
four drops on the floor

Little Mary-Anne could see them no more

Her eyes had been plucked
as she lay quietly asleep

Little Mary-Anne could no longer weep

Her lips sewn together,
the strings pulled taut

Mary-Anne tried to scream, but she could not

Then razors to her ears,
bathing her in silence

Mary-Anne sat frozen from all of his violence

Her attacker bit his tongue
so as to keep from screaming

Trying not to wake Mary-Anne's mother from dreaming

He retreats into the shadows
over-flowing with joy

But his sister will seek revenge on his favorite toy

And an oldy for good measure

Paean of Darkness and Light

Each day I am come-by two souls who appear
At dawn and dusk throughout all the year.
Ethereal are they and together they stand
With darkness and light cupped in their hands.
They speak through the silence, their voices I hear,
And come bearing offers of fortune and fear.
They draw me into the web that they weave;
I reach to them both as one of them leaves.

The angel flies off, to the clouds I assume,
From above she will watch and from there she will loom.
Now left alone with this devilish rogue,
Her voice strangely sweet as she sings me her ode.
Shadowy visions and dark thoughts fill my mind;
Deep in my core I am enchanted I find.
Her penetrating eyes see into my soul,
But she stop and she leaves and she knows I want more.

The angel returns and the devil retires
Back under ground to the brimstone and fires.
With darkness now gone, she bathes me in light
And gives me sweet dreams for all of the night.
She takes me to places of love and good-will;
Her locks are the sun and my heart they do fill.
But she brings me back, for she knows what I yearn
And blows me a kiss as the devil returns.

Once again, before me they stand
Two visions of beauty not of this land.
They pull me both ways, to good and to bad,
Though I know I am sane, they make me feel mad.
For caught between them both is my soul;
With either of them lost I cannot be whole.
Moonlight or sunlight, whichever I choose,
Neither darkness nor light nor them I will lose.

Short One...er, 1 Short

I know it's been a while since the last post, but there are two good reasons for that. The first is that I'm pretty sure no one's reading this. The second, and more important reason, is that I've been busy making...this!

I still want to edit it a little. But all in all, I'm pretty happy with it. Stay tuned for part 2...uh, eventually.
